01.  Starting your GLP-1 journey with Onsera

You've taken a meaningful step. Getting here — making the decision, working with your provider, getting approved — takes real effort, and we don't take that lightly.

Onsera exists to support you through the full journey. Your medication and clinical care are always present and available. And when you're ready, lifestyle support — lessons, coaching, and nutrition guidance — is here too.

There is no right way to do this. Some members dive in right away. Others take it one step at a time. Both are completely fine. This program shapes around your life, not the other way around.

Onsera is built around a simple idea: that the goal of this journey is not just weight loss — it is healthspan. Healthspan is the years of life lived with full energy, strength, and vitality. Everything in this program, from your medication to the support available to you, is designed with that longer view in mind.

What follows is everything you need to know to get started — your medication, your care team, and what's available to you. Take it at whatever pace feels right.

One thing to know before we go further

There are two things this program asks of you: weigh in at minimum once a month, and complete your monthly check-in questionnaire.

Everything else you are about to read — the care team, the lessons, the coaching, the nutrition support — is here because members find it valuable. Not because it is required. You can engage with as much or as little as feels right, and that can change at any point in your journey.

02. Your medication — what to expect next

Once your GLP-1 prescription has been approved and sent to the pharmacy by your provider. Here is what happens from here.

Receiving your medication

Depending on your plan, you will either pick up your medication at a pharmacy or it will be shipped to the address on file. You can check in the Onsera app to see which applies to you.

Shipping & Fulfillment

If shipped, expect delivery within 2-5 days. When your medication arrives, review all materials before disposing of any packaging. You’ll receive shipping notifications in the Engage app.

Auto-injecting pens and KwikPens typically arrive in a styrofoam container with a cold pack and should be refrigerated as soon as possible. Pills may arrive in a small box inside an envelope.

Pharmacy Pick-up

After your prescription is confirmed, your provider may prescribe medications you will pick up from your local pharmacy. Please follow your local pharmacy's instructions for pick-up and availability.

💡 Please keep in mind that some plans require us to use certain pharmacies, and we can't control or confirm medication inventory or availability.

04. Welcome Kit Overview

As part of your Onsera program, you'll receive a Welcome Kit with a few simple tools to help you track your progress at home:

How to manually measure your resting heart rate

You don't need a device to check your resting heart rate — just a watch or timer and one hand.

  1. Sit quietly for at least 5 minutes before measuring, so your heart rate has settled to its resting state.
  2. Find your pulse. Use two fingers (index and middle — not your thumb) and press lightly on either:
    • The inside of your wrist, below the base of your thumb (radial pulse), or
    • The side of your neck, next to your windpipe (carotid pulse)
  3. Once you feel a steady beat, count the number of beats for 30 seconds.
  4. Multiply that number by 2 to get your beats per minute (bpm).
  5. For the most accurate reading, take your resting heart rate first thing in the morning, before getting out of bed.
💡A normal resting heart rate for most adults falls between 60–100 bpm. If yours is consistently outside that range, or you notice a sudden change, message your care team through the app.
Read a more extensive article about measuring your resting heart rate here.

05. What to expect from weight loss

Most people using GLP-1 and GLP/GIP medications see meaningful weight changes over 3–6 months. In clinical studies, many people lost 10–20% body weight over one year or more, though results are different for everyone. It depends on the medicine, the dose, and healthy habits like eating well and moving your body.

Weight loss is not always on a straight path. Many things can affect your progress, including your starting weight, sleep, stress levels, eating habits, physical activity, and how your body works (metabolic health). Our goal is to help you lose weight in a safe, sustainable and healthy way - not just lose weight as fast as possible

Common side effects

It is normal for your body to need time to get used to the medicine. In the first few weeks, you might feel sick to your stomach, have trouble going to the bathroom, or feel very tired. These feelings are usually mild and go away on their own.

A few things that help:

  • Eat smaller meals more slowly
  • Drink plenty of water
  • Do not skip meals, even if you are not hungry

If something feels severe or you are unsure — reach out. We would rather hear from you. Message us anytime through the app.

To keep your care on track, we ask two things:

  • Monthly weigh-in — helps your team track progress and adjust your care
  • Refill check-in — you will be asked some questions before each prescription is approved

That is it. Everything else is available to you — none of it is required.

06. Lifestyle Resources

Lifestyle resources are coming soon. These lessons — covering Nutrition, Movement, Sleep, and Emotional Health — will be available to you as we expand the program.

07. Your journey, your way

There is no single right way to be in this program. Right now, your medication and clinical care are the core of what Onsera provides. Lifestyle support — lessons, coaching, nutrition guidance, and more — is coming soon and will be available to you as we expand the program.
