If you miss one dose of your weekly GLP-1 medicine, it is usually not a big deal. The most important thing is what you do after you miss it. This guide explains exactly what you should do next.

First — Don’t Double Up

Never take two doses to make up for one you missed. Taking a double dose makes it much more likely that you will feel sick, throw up, or have other negative side effects, and it does not give you any extra benefit. Missing one dose will not ruin your progress.

Weekly Injectable GLP-1 Medications

Semaglutide (Ozempic, Wegovy) and Tirzepatide (Zepbound, Mounjaro)

Situation What to Do
Missed dose, and next dose is 4+ days away
Inject the missed dose as soon as you remember. Then return to your regular weekly schedule.
Missed dose, and next dose is less than 4 days away
Skip the missed dose. Take your next dose on your regularly scheduled day. Do not take two doses close together.
Not sure how long it’s been since last dose
Skip it and go back to your normal schedule. If you aren’t sure, it is always safer to skip than to take two doses close together.

After a missed dose, you may notice:

  • Your hunger or food cravings might come back for a little while (this is normal).
  • You might feel a little more hungry than usual before your next shot.
  • There is no lasting impact on your overall progress from a single missed dose.

Daily Oral GLP-1 Medications

Semaglutide (Wegovy pill) and Orforglipron (Foundayo)

Situation What to Do
Missed dose, remembered the same day
Take it as soon as you remember.
Missed a dose, but almost time for your next dose
Skip the missed dose and take the next one on schedule. Never take 2 doses at once.

Getting Back on Track

Missing a dose sometimes happens. Here are tips to help you remember:

  • Set a weekly phone alarm on your injection day.
  • Link your injection to an existing weekly routine like grocery shopping or a regular phone call.
  • Keep your medication in a spot you will see it.
  • Use your patient portal — your Onsera care team can note your scheduled injection day and help you troubleshoot if you’re frequently missing doses.

When Missed Doses Become a Pattern

If you find yourself missing doses often, talk to your care team. It might happen because:

  • You are worried about side effects.
  • You are nervous about the shot.
  • You have trouble getting the medicine.
  • You just forget. Log your weekly injection or daily pill in the Onsera Engage app.
💡 Missing doses often can slow your progress. There is no judgment — just let us know.

Contact Your Care Team If:

  • You have missed 2 or more weeks in a row.
  • You missed dose(s) because of illness, vomiting, or couldn’t eat.
  • You aren’t sure if your specific medication has different rules.
